A large fire broke out on Tuesday at a market in western Tehran, according to Iranian state media, while the cause of the blaze remains unknown.
Jalal Maleki, spokesman for the Tehran Fire Department, said in statements carried by state television that the fire erupted at a local market in Jannat Abad, a neighborhood that contains a large number of shops and stalls.
He added, “The fire is so massive that it can be seen from various parts of the city.”
Iranian television reported that firefighting teams immediately headed to the scene to bring the blaze under control.
Footage showed thick columns of black smoke billowing into the sky and covering the area surrounding the site of the fire.
