Despite praising it at the time, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had not favored the short-term ceasefire with Iran reached by his administration in June under what was then described as an initial memorandum of understanding.اضافة اعلان

Speaking at an election rally in Mississippi late Monday, Trump referred to the ongoing war in Iran, saying: “We announced a short ceasefire. I didn’t like it very much.”

He added that he considered the agreement “sort of a waste of time,” but continued: “But, you know, it’s better to listen to the experts.”

“Beginning of a New Golden Age”

Trump provided no further details, but his remarks appeared to refer to the ceasefire he said his administration had reached with Iran in June.

The agreement, brokered by Pakistan, quickly collapsed without achieving any of its objectives, including the launch of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.

Trump’s latest comments sharply contrast with his position when the agreement was announced. At the time, he described it as “a great day for world peace” and said it could “represent the beginning of a new golden age in the Middle East.”

The remarks came as several U.S. officials and informed sources said a new round of strikes against Iranian targets was imminent, with expectations that they could begin after the midterm elections scheduled for November 3.

Tehran, meanwhile, has warned of an “unexpected” response to any U.S. or Israeli attack, signaling that it could expand the scope of its targets to include additional U.S. bases and interests across the region, as well as undersea internet cables.
