Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that it had intercepted and destroyed three drones over the Riyadh and southern regions.
Saudi Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Malki said in a statement on X: “Three drones were intercepted and destroyed in the Riyadh and southern regions.”
Earlier on Monday, Saudi Arabia announced a military operation targeting sites belonging to the Houthi militia, which it classifies as a terrorist organization, in Yemen. The operation included the destruction of five tunnels used to store ballistic missiles, four launch platforms and a missile storage facility.
Al-Malki said the Coalition’s Joint Forces Command carried out the operation to neutralize sources of threat in response to repeated ballistic missile and drone attacks.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, he said the operation also focused on disrupting the militias’ supply lines between areas under their control.
He added that the operation targeted fortifications, gatherings of militia members and military equipment along front lines inside Yemen.
The Iran-backed Houthis have intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabia, including strikes on Riyadh Airport. One such attack on October 10 killed 13 people and injured hundreds, marking the deadliest attack on Saudi territory in more than a decade.
