“We pray for the souls of the martyrs who lost their lives in this cowardly terrorist act,” Maaytah said.
His remarks came during a joint press conference held at the Ministry of Interior, attended by the ministers of Government Communication and Interior, along with the Public Security Director, to provide details on the arrest of those responsible for the terrorist attack in Karak Governorate.
Maaytah explained that investigations began immediately after the attack and proceeded along two parallel tracks.
The first focused on criminal and intelligence investigations, including gathering information and collecting evidence from the crime scene.
The second concentrated on strengthening emergency response capabilities, security control measures, and operational systems, while conducting search and intervention operations to identify the terrorists' movements and the routes they had taken.
He added that security forces identified a large geographical area encompassing several villages, mountainous terrain, and rugged valleys.
Necessary measures were taken to isolate the area and secure its perimeter through checkpoints, patrols, and drone surveillance to ensure the terrorists were surrounded.
“Over the past three days, security teams continuously searched the designated areas. Shortly after midnight last night, one of the villages was divided into sectors, and several abandoned houses were identified for inspection and search by specialized teams,” Maaytah said.
He explained that the three terrorists opened heavy fire on security personnel, prompting officers to surround and isolate the building and respond in accordance with the rules of engagement, using advanced weapons, equipment, and specialized tactical capabilities.
The operation resulted in security forces gaining control of the building and arresting all three terrorists, who had sustained injuries during the confrontation.
“They were transferred to the hospital, where they remain under medical treatment. Investigations with them will begin once their condition allows,” Maaytah said.
He reiterated that upon entering the targeted building, security forces encountered three armed terrorists who opened intense fire, requiring officers to respond in accordance with established rules of engagement.
Maaytah emphasized that investigations remain ongoing to establish all the circumstances and legal aspects of the case before referring it to the judiciary.
“We affirm that work is continuing to complete the investigation in all its details and legal dimensions in preparation for referring the case to the courts,” he said.
Identities of the Terrorist Attack Perpetrators Revealed
Maaytah identified the three arrested suspects, confirming that they belong to the same family.
Two are brothers, while the third is related to them by marriage.
He named the suspects as Hazza Zaidan Mohammad, whom he identified as the mastermind behind the attack; his brother, Mishal Zaidan Mohammad; and Ahmad Sami Hussein.
According to Maaytah, all three are extremists who embrace takfiri ideology and were responsible for carrying out the terrorist attack.
He also highlighted the importance of information provided by citizens in supporting security operations.
“We also rely on a great deal of information provided by many individuals who believe that this country must remain a haven of security and stability,” he said.
Jordan Will Remain Firm Against Threats to Its Security
Maaytah reaffirmed the security services' commitment to protecting Jordan and its citizens from terrorist threats.
“We affirm that Jordan will remain resilient against anyone who seeks to undermine its security, stability, or the safety of its people,” he stated.
He stressed that security forces would continue their efforts to confront any threats, whether originating from within Jordan or beyond its borders.
“We will continue our work and act with an iron fist against anyone who attempts to threaten the country's security, engage in acts of sabotage, or cooperate with those seeking to undermine Jordan, whether at home or abroad,” Maaytah concluded.
