More than 400 official delegations representing 75 brotherly and friendly countries are participating in the conference, alongside 350 exhibiting companies from 38 countries. The event will examine the latest developments in the defence and security industries, showcase modern technologies and strategies for addressing future security challenges, and promote international cooperation and the exchange of expertise.

Retired Major General Engineer Ayman Al-Batran, chairman of the board of SOFEX, said: “Jordan’s hosting of this conference reaffirms its international standing as a trusted and active partner in combating terrorism, strengthening security measures, developing institutional and operational capabilities, exchanging expertise, and contributing effectively to supporting security and peace in the region and the world.”

Al-Batran added that this edition of SOFEX carries exceptional importance as it takes place amid a rapidly evolving and increasingly complex security and operational environment. In this context, shared knowledge and collective expertise have become essential to preparedness and effective response, particularly in the fields of unmanned aerial vehicles, counter-drone systems and keeping pace with technological transformations.

In his address, the commander of the Special OperationsForces stressed that the effectiveness of special operations forces today depends primarily on anticipating and predicting change rather than merely reacting to it. He emphasised that contemporary security challenges require a culture of institutional integration and the development of international strategic partnerships.

He noted that this year’s conference focuses on knowledge and innovation, multi-domain operations and international military cooperation, which form a fundamental pillar for strengthening regional resilience and developing capabilities to address anticipated threats and circumstances.

The conference featured intensive discussions across three main sessions. Topics included bridging the gap between theory and practice; the role of military institutions, academia and industry in technological development, innovation and combat readiness; the interdependence between unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and special operations forces in asymmetric warfare across different domains; the challenges and benefits of joint fusion and targeting centres; and the role of military diplomacy and unconventional humanitarian missions.

The conference is the official accompanying event to the Jordanian Special Operations Forces Exhibition, SOFEX 2026, which begins on Tuesday under royal patronage at the Exhibition and Convention Centre in Aqaba. The three-day exhibition will bring together local and international participants to showcase the latest weapons, equipment and defence and security technologies.
