He said the operation was conducted as part of the coalition’s legitimate right to self-defense and to protect the security and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia, in response to repeated Houthi attacks and attempts to target civilians in Saudi Arabia and Yemen using ballistic missiles and drones.

Al-Maliki said in a statement that the operation targeted and destroyed legitimate military objectives in areas controlled by the Houthi militia. The operation included the destruction of five tunnels used to store ballistic missiles, four ballistic missile launchers and a missile storage facility.

He added that the operation focused on disrupting the supply lines of the Houthi militia between areas under its control, as well as targeting its fortifications, gatherings of fighters and military equipment along front lines inside Yemen.

Al-Maliki stressed that the coalition’s joint forces command would continue carrying out deterrent operational measures against the Houthi militia to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia from its attacks.

He also said the measures were aimed at protecting innocent civilians inside Yemen from the militia’s actions and what he described as its continued killing and mistreatment of Yemenis by various means.

Al-Maliki affirmed that the military operation was conducted in accordance with international humanitarian law and customary international humanitarian rules.
