The Israeli military said the political leadership had approved a ban on the entry and exit of Palestinian workers across the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, including industrial zones, in addition to closing all land crossings throughout election day on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
On Saturday, thousands of protesters marched in Tel Aviv against the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, three days ahead of a pivotal election that is expected to serve as a referendum on the prime minister himself.
The protests were organized by the October Council, a group established by families of those killed and those taken hostage in Gaza during the October 7, 2023 attack. The group is demanding accountability for officials over the failures that prevented authorities from stopping the Hamas attack that triggered the war in the Gaza Strip.
The demonstration came after years of campaigns by Israeli civil society groups and opposition parties calling for an independent commission of inquiry into the security failures surrounding the events of October 7.
The Netanyahu government has rejected calls for an independent commission, despite Israel having established similar commissions in the past to investigate major national failures.
Instead, the government proposed establishing a “political” commission, with half of its members appointed by the governing coalition and the other half by opposition lawmakers.
Opposition leaders have rejected participation in forming such a “political” commission.
