Former Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 74, the Amiri Diwan of Qatar announced.
According to a statement carried by the Qatar News Agency (QNA):
“With hearts that believe in Allah’s will and decree, the Amiri Diwan mourns the nation’s great leader, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on the morning of Sunday, 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to July 12, 2026, at the age of 74.”
Sheikh Hamad served as the Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, before voluntarily transferring power to his son, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, marking the first voluntary transfer of power in Qatar’s modern history.
