Qatar and Kuwait announced on Sunday that they had intercepted missile attacks amid escalating military tensions in the region following the latest U.S. strikes on Iran.
In a post on X, Qatar’s Ministry of Defense said the Qatari Armed Forces had successfully intercepted a missile attack targeting the country.
In a subsequent statement, the ministry added that the armed forces were continuing to intercept multiple ballistic missile attacks directed at the State of Qatar.
AFP journalists in Doha reported hearing explosions across the Qatari capital and observed air defense systems intercepting incoming missiles over the city, which has been serving as a mediator between Washington and Tehran. Residents also received text message alerts urging them to remain indoors and stay in safe locations.
In Kuwait, the General Staff of the Armed Forces announced that the military had intercepted hostile aerial targets within Kuwaiti airspace. It noted that explosion sounds could be heard as air defense systems engaged the incoming threats.
The Kuwaiti military urged the public to follow all safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
Earlier on Sunday, the Interior Ministries of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates announced that air raid sirens had been activated across both countries, warning of a missile threat.
