The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the completion of a project to establish and equip a truck parking yard at the Jaber Border Crossing, as part of efforts to develop the crossing’s infrastructure and logistics services, organize truck traffic entering through Jordan’s northern border, and provide a safe and integrated environment for drivers and vehicles.
The project aims to improve freight and transportation operations at the Jaber crossing by providing a dedicated and organized area for trucks to park and wait, equipped with the necessary service, technical and security facilities. The project is also intended to reduce random truck parking and improve services for drivers and crossing users.
The project included the construction and preparation of a truck parking area covering approximately 50,000 square meters, with a paved area capable of accommodating 161 trucks. It also included precast concrete walls surrounding the yard, extending approximately 900 meters and standing 2.5 meters high.
The facilities include an air-conditioned prayer room with ablution areas and sanitary units, as well as a paved area of approximately 3,500 square meters in front of the prayer room. The project also included a cafeteria, a building housing sanitary and public services for truck drivers, a guard room and an electrical room.
The yard has been equipped with lighting towers, a public-address system to guide users, Wi-Fi, and a surveillance camera system to enhance security and safety and monitor truck movements. It also includes electric charging points for refrigerators and cooling units on refrigerated trucks.
The project further included paved pedestrian walkways to facilitate safe movement within the yard and a main electric gate for entry and exit, helping organize truck traffic and improve the efficiency of arrival and departure procedures. Areas were also allocated for future landscaping, tree planting and beautification.
The project is particularly important given the Jaber Border Crossing’s role in land transportation and commercial exchange through Jordan’s northern border. A dedicated and fully equipped truck parking area is expected to improve waiting and parking management, reduce pressure on the crossing’s facilities and surrounding roads, and provide safer and more comfortable conditions for drivers during waiting periods.
The project is the first project implemented under the approved master plan for the Jaber Border Crossing, marking the beginning of a series of development works aimed at upgrading the crossing’s infrastructure and increasing its capacity to handle truck and freight traffic, while allowing for future expansion according to operational needs.
With the project’s completion, the truck parking yard now offers an integrated range of essential, service, technical and security facilities, supporting more efficient land transportation and trade flows through Jordan’s northern border.
