Jordan’s Ministry of Culture, Petra Development Authority Sign Cooperation Memorandum

The Ministry of Culture and the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority on Wednesday signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at strengthening cultural and development efforts in the Petra region and leveraging culture as an effective tool to support tourism, economic and social development.اضافة اعلان
The memorandum was signed by Minister of Culture Mustafa Al-Rawashdeh and Chairman of the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority’s Board of Commissioners, Engineer Adnan Al-Sawa’ir, as part of efforts to enhance institutional cooperation and develop sustainable cultural and development programs and initiatives.
Al-Rawashdeh said the memorandum reflects the ministry’s approach of expanding partnerships with national institutions and strengthening the role of culture across various development sectors.
He noted that Petra, with its rich civilizational, cultural and human heritage, provides an important platform for launching high-quality cultural and creative initiatives.
He added that cooperation with the Petra authority would help support local talent and provide an environment conducive to creativity, while documenting local cultural and heritage practices and presenting them in contemporary ways that strengthen the local community’s connection to its heritage and identity.
The minister said the ministry looks forward to implementing joint cultural programs and events that would make culture an integral part of tourism, economic and social development, while creating opportunities for creative initiatives capable of generating a sustainable impact within the local community.
For his part, Al-Sawa’ir said the authority attaches great importance to supporting the local community, developing the skills of its members and creating opportunities for creative and cultural initiatives.
He said the memorandum provides a framework for cooperation in implementing programs, events and projects that can create new opportunities for young people and creatives and strengthen their participation in local development.
Integrating culture into Petra’s tourism product would enrich the visitor experience and highlight the region’s cultural and heritage traditions, he added, while strengthening Petra’s position as a destination extending beyond its archaeological and tourism value to become a space for creativity, culture and knowledge exchange.
Under the memorandum, the authority will also seek, within its available capabilities, to make use of its facilities to host conferences, seminars, workshops and activities related to the objectives of the cooperation, in accordance with applicable regulations and instructions and through prior coordination between the two sides.
The memorandum provides for cooperation, within each party’s respective areas of responsibility and in accordance with applicable legislation, to implement cultural and development programs, activities and projects aimed at developing local cultural work, strengthening the creative environment, promoting dialogue and respect for cultural diversity, and utilizing culture to support tourism, economic and social development.
Areas of cooperation also include developing human resources and enhancing their capabilities, designing and implementing joint cultural initiatives with a sustainable community impact, and organizing conferences, seminars, workshops and intellectual and cultural forums.
The two sides will also exchange non-confidential studies, data and knowledge content, while monitoring and documenting local cultural and heritage practices and highlighting them through contemporary cultural programs.
The memorandum further provides for supporting creative and innovative initiatives and cultural entrepreneurship projects, coordinating efforts to attract technical and knowledge-based support and non-financial partnerships with relevant national and international organizations, and developing cultural models that can be replicated and expanded.
The cooperation is ultimately intended to promote the sustainability of cultural programs and initiatives across the Petra region while strengthening the role of culture as a driver of local development.
