U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio affirmed that moves aimed at recognizing a Palestinian state “do not bring the region closer to the establishment of an actual Palestinian state.”

Speaking at a press conference in Jerusalem alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, Rubio said Washington views any unilateral steps as obstructing peace efforts rather than advancing them.
He added, “We have warned countries attempting to recognize a Palestinian state that Israel will respond to their actions.”
Rubio noted that the United States held extensive consultations with its Gulf allies “before and after the Israeli strike in Doha,” stressing the continuation of close coordination to ensure regional stability and prevent further escalation.
He also said the U.S. will encourage Qatar to continue playing a “constructive” role in the Gaza file, noting that Qatari efforts could help alleviate humanitarian suffering and push parties toward de-escalation.
On another note, Rubio emphasized that “the existence of Hamas as an armed entity must come to an end, as it represents a direct threat to peace and regional security,” adding that the U.S. will continue exerting “maximum pressure” on Iran until it changes its destabilizing policies and behavior in the region.
