Al-Nono added that mediators are exerting significant efforts to remove any obstacles to the steps needed for implementing a ceasefire, noting that a sense of optimism is prevailing among all parties.
He explained that the negotiations have focused on mechanisms to end the war, the withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza, and the exchange of prisoners.
He pointed out that today, the lists of prisoners to be released were exchanged, according to the agreed standards and numbers.
Al-Nono stated that indirect negotiations are continuing today with the participation of all parties and mediators.
On Wednesday, delegations from Qatar, the United States, and Turkey joined a new round of talks on U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, following two days of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
Indirect talks began in Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday, October 6, 2025, lasting four hours, and continued on Tuesday in a “positive” atmosphere, according to two informed sources.
The discussions focused on “mechanisms for handing over Israeli hostages, both living and deceased, in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Israeli withdrawal maps, the entry of aid with the start of a ceasefire, and transferring administration of Gaza to an independent Palestinian technocratic committee.” Hamas also demanded clarification of the mechanisms and procedures required to implement Trump’s plan, as well as guarantees to prevent Israel from resuming aggression on Gaza.
Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza includes a clause stating that “once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 prisoners serving life sentences, in addition to 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza detained after October 7, 2023, including all women and children arrested in that context. For each Israeli hostage whose body is returned, Israel will release the remains of 15 Palestinians.”
The talks follow Hamas’s agreement to release all hostages in Gaza in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
A senior Hamas leader previously said that the movement’s delegation in Egypt is working to overcome all obstacles to reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people, adding that Hamas has approached ceasefire proposals, including Trump’s plan, with a high sense of responsibility.
Trump, for his part, stated that once an agreement is reached to end the war in Gaza, “we will do everything possible to ensure that all parties abide by it.”
On Monday, September 29, 2025, Trump unveiled his 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza, which still requires the approval of the parties involved. The plan specifically stipulates that he would personally chair a committee overseeing the transitional phase in the Gaza Strip.
