In a statement, the movement said, “Hamas confirms that it has not received any new proposals from the mediators.”
It added that “negotiations have been suspended since the failed assassination attempt on the ninth of this month in the Qatari capital, Doha.”
On September 9, the Israeli army carried out an airstrike targeting the Hamas negotiating delegation in Doha while it was discussing U.S. President Donald Trump’s ceasefire proposal for Gaza. Qatar condemned the attack and affirmed its right to respond.
Hamas announced at the time that its negotiating delegation, led by its Gaza chief Khalil Al-Hayya, survived the assassination attempt. However, his office director Jihad Labad, his son Humam Al-Hayya, and three aides were killed.
On Sunday, Hamas emphasized its readiness to consider “any proposals received from the mediators with positivity and responsibility, in a way that preserves the national rights of our people.”
On August 18, Hamas had agreed to a mediator-backed proposal for a partial ceasefire and prisoner exchange, but Israel did not respond, despite the plan’s alignment with a previous proposal approved by Tel Aviv.
Israeli opposition parties and families of prisoners accuse Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing any chance to reach a deal to end the war and return their relatives, allegedly to protect his political interests and stay in power, despite Hamas’ acceptance of mediator proposals for both partial and comprehensive deals.
Netanyahu is also facing domestic corruption trials that could lead to imprisonment if convicted, and the International Criminal Court has sought his arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against Palestinians in Gaza.
With U.S. support, Israel has carried out a campaign of mass killings in Gaza since October 7, 2023, resulting in 65,926 deaths and 167,783 injuries, most of them women and children, and famine has claimed the lives of 442 Palestinians, including 147 children.
Israel has occupied Palestine and territories in Syria and Lebanon for decades, refusing to withdraw or allow the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on pre-1967 borders.
