A cringe-worthy moment for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg was caught on tape during a formal White House dinner, when an open microphone picked up his voice admitting to former U.S. President Donald Trump that he didn’t know how to answer a question posed to him during the event.

Zuckerberg was among a group of elite tech leaders attending Thursday’s dinner, including Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and OpenAI founder Sam Altman.
During the event, Trump asked Zuckerberg directly—before the audience and TV cameras—about the scale of investment Meta was planning in the United States. Zuckerberg, visibly hesitant, responded:
“Oh, my God, I think it will be, I don’t know, maybe at least $600 billion by 2028, in the United States, yes.”
Trump remarked that this was a huge amount, to which Zuckerberg awkwardly admitted:
“Yes, no—it really is a massive figure.”
Later, an open mic captured Zuckerberg apologizing to Trump, confessing that he hadn’t been prepared for the question. Trump jokingly turned to his wife, Melania, who was seated beside him, and said:
“Zuckerberg wasn’t ready.”
Laughing, Zuckerberg added afterward:
“I wasn’t sure what number you were expecting.”
The Daily Mail has since reached out to Meta for comment on the exchange, which was inadvertently picked up by the microphone.
