The United Nations General Assembly has decided to resume a high-level international conference on the two-state solution on September 22, aiming to revive a peace process that was suspended this summer amid escalating aggression on Gaza.

The decision came following an oral proposal by Saudi Arabia. The conference seeks to support a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution.
However, Israel and the United States announced their withdrawal from the conference, arguing that resuming it could prolong the war in Gaza and encourage Hamas.
The United States confirmed it would not participate. Nevertheless, resuming the conference during the General Assembly’s high-level week is expected to allow greater attendance by heads of state and government.
It remains unclear whether Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will be able to attend in person, particularly given the U.S. ban on issuing visas to Palestinian officials. –(Agencies)
