Start of Weapons Withdrawal from Palestinian Camps in Lebanon
The Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee announced that the first phase of the handover of weapons from Palestinian camps in Lebanon will begin today, Thursday, with the arms to be placed under the custody of the Lebanese Army. This marks a significant step after decades of armed Palestinian presence in Lebanon, which began with the Cairo Agreement.اضافة اعلان

In a statement published by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the committee said:
"Today marks the beginning of the first phase of the process of handing over weapons from within the Palestinian camps, starting with the Burj al-Barajneh camp in Beirut, where an initial batch of weapons will be delivered and placed in the custody of the Lebanese Army. This handover will represent the first step, to be followed by further batches in the coming weeks in Burj al-Barajneh and other camps."

The committee added that this disarmament process is in implementation of the resolutions of the Lebanese-Palestinian summit held on May 21, 2025, between Presidents Joseph Aoun and Mahmoud Abbas, which affirmed Lebanon's sovereignty over its entire territory, the extension of state authority, and the enforcement of the principle of exclusive arms possession by the state.

It also noted that the move comes in line with the resolutions of the joint meeting of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee held on May 23, 2025, chaired by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and attended by representatives of both Lebanese and Palestinian authorities. During that meeting, the parties agreed on an implementation mechanism and a clear timeline to address the issue of Palestinian arms.
