Senate passes penalties, enforcement bills

AMMAN — The Senate on Tuesday approved the amended penalties and enforcement laws as passed by the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency Petra. In a session chaired by Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez and attended by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh and cabinet ministers, senators again refused the addition of “political parties” to the Independent Election Commission’s name as proposed by the Lower House. A joint session of Parliament will be held to vote on the amendment. The Senate also endorsed a recommendation to the government to extend until the end of the year Defense Order No. 28 of 2021. The order suspended jail sentences for defaulting on debt less than JD100,000. The order allows for litigation to continue, but in case of conviction, jail sentences are suspended. In addition, anyone convicted is banned from traveling. AMMAN — The Senate on Tuesday approved the amended penalties and enforcement laws as passed by the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency Petra.
 


In a session chaired by Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez and attended by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh and cabinet ministers, senators again refused the addition of “political parties” to the Independent Election Commission’s name as proposed by the Lower House.

A joint session of Parliament will be held to vote on the amendment.

The Senate also endorsed a recommendation to the government to extend until the end of the year Defense Order No. 28 of 2021. The order suspended jail sentences for defaulting on debt less than JD100,000.
