AMMAN —
The Senate on Tuesday approved the amended penalties and enforcement laws as
passed by the Lower House, according to the Jordan News Agency Petra.
In a session chaired
by Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez and attended by Prime Minister Bisher
Al-Khasawneh and cabinet ministers, senators again refused the addition of
“political parties” to the Independent Election Commission’s name as proposed
by the Lower House.
A joint session of
Parliament will be held to vote on the amendment.
The Senate also
endorsed a recommendation to the government to extend until the end of the year
Defense Order No. 28 of 2021. The order suspended jail sentences for defaulting
on debt less than JD100,000.
The order allows for
litigation to continue, but in case of conviction, jail sentences are
suspended. In addition, anyone convicted is banned from traveling.
