Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, on Thursday inaugurated the “North Platform” technology center in Irbid, in the presence of the governor, members of parliament representing northern governorates, officials from partner organizations, and other government representatives.
The center was established under the Youth, Technology and Jobs Project, one of the ministry’s flagship development initiatives aimed at serving young people in Irbid and northern Jordan by expanding access to digital skills training, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship support.
During a tour of the facility, Smeirat visited its training halls, co-working spaces, and technology infrastructure, and received a briefing on the programs and services that will be offered to beneficiaries.
He said the opening of the North Platform reflects the ministry’s commitment to promoting social and geographic equity in access to digital training and empowerment opportunities, while providing an environment that enables young people to develop skills aligned with labor market needs.
Smeirat added that the center forms part of the government’s broader development agenda in Irbid and supports the objectives of Jordan’s Economic Modernization Vision, which seeks to strengthen the digital economy, build a highly skilled workforce, enhance the Kingdom’s competitiveness, and position Jordan as a regional hub for technology and innovation.
He noted that the center’s role extends beyond training to include providing co-working spaces, fostering collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange, and connecting young people with trainers, entrepreneurs, private-sector companies, academic institutions, and local communities.
According to Smeirat, the success of the center will ultimately be measured by its impact on young people’s lives through the skills they acquire, the employment opportunities they secure, and the innovative ideas and businesses they develop.
He also praised the Youth, Technology and Jobs Project team and partner organizations, highlighting the role of INJAZ, which operates the center and is responsible for managing its facilities and delivering specialized programs tailored to the needs of young people and the labor market.
For her part, INJAZ Chief Executive Officer Deema Al-Bibi said the organization is proud of its partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship and the trust placed in it to establish and operate the North Platform.
She said the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to creating an integrated environment that empowers youth and opens new opportunities in technology and innovation.
Al-Bibi added that INJAZ will implement specialized training programs, events, and initiatives designed to strengthen digital skills, improve employment prospects, and encourage entrepreneurship among young people in northern Jordan.
Drawing on its extensive experience and network of public- and private-sector partners, INJAZ aims to maximize the platform’s impact and expand opportunities for youth and local communities.
Located in the Irbid Central Bus Terminal complex, the center provides an integrated space for training, learning, collaboration, and innovation, helping empower young people across Jordan’s northern governorates and strengthen their participation in the digital economy.
