The Israeli military announced on Thursday that two reserve soldiers were killed in southern Lebanon, while four other soldiers were seriously wounded in the same incident.
According to the military, the two soldiers were killed on Wednesday during fighting in southern Lebanon, marking Israel’s first reported military fatalities since June 28, according to information published on its official website.
The announcement came a day after the Israeli military said it had resumed airstrikes in southern Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire, one day after talks began in Rome aimed at reaching an agreement to halt the fighting.
The strikes followed an Israeli evacuation warning issued to residents of the village of Al-Mansouri, the first such warning in several weeks.
Meanwhile, Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that one person was killed and 11 others were injured in a separate Israeli airstrike that struck a cemetery in southern Lebanon.
Al-Mansouri is located about 9 kilometers south of Tyre and roughly 10 kilometers north of the Israeli border. In recent weeks, the village has been subjected to repeated Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling despite the ceasefire that has been in effect since June.
On June 22, the municipality of Al-Mansouri informed residents that they could return to the village but urged them to avoid the area designated by Israel as part of its “security zone” in southern Lebanon.
The so-called security zone refers to a strip extending approximately 10 kilometers inside southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces maintain a military presence and have conducted extensive demolition operations.
