Jordan’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has signed an agreement with the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., to host the international exhibition “Jordan: Dawn of Christianity,” a move aimed at showcasing the Kingdom’s Christian heritage and strengthening its international cultural presence.
The agreement was signed in the U.S. capital by Jordan’s Ambassador to the United States, Dina Kawar, on behalf of the ministry, and Carlos Campo, President and CEO of the Museum of the Bible.
According to the ministry, the exhibition highlights Jordan as a land that witnessed the beginnings of Christianity and underscores its pivotal role in the emergence and spread of the Christian faith. It will feature a collection of rare archaeological artifacts documenting nearly 2,000 years of Christian presence in the Kingdom.
The exhibition also showcases Jordan’s most prominent Christian pilgrimage and heritage sites, led by the Baptism Site (Bethany Beyond the Jordan), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside Machaerus, Umm Qais, the Churches of Rihab, the Ancient Church of Aqaba, the churches of Petra and Umm ar-Rasas, as well as the renowned Madaba mosaics.
The exhibition forms part of Jordan’s preparations to commemorate the 2,000th anniversary of the baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist, reinforcing the Baptism Site’s status as a global destination for Christian pilgrimage and religious heritage tourism.
“Jordan: Dawn of Christianity” was previously exhibited at the Vatican and in Assisi, Italy, where it attracted significant international attention. The exhibition is scheduled to open at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., during the first quarter of 2027.
