Ministry spokesman Yanal Barmawi stressed that the ministry is committed to the ministry’s laws, and that it will be monitoring particularly prices at food, clothes, dessert shops and restaurants.

The ministry found more than 1,700 violations related to commodities across the Kingdom from March 10 to March 27, such as absence of price tags, non-compliance with price caps, or with announced sales, Barmawi said.

Some 500 inspectors are distributed around the Kingdom to check on any violations, as per the directives by Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Barmawi said.

Punishments stipulated in the Industry and Trade Ministry law include a fine of up to JD30,000 or one-year imprisonment, he said.
