According to the ministry's latest strategic stock report, issued as of Tuesday morning, supplies of key food commodities remain stable, supported by incoming shipments secured through close coordination with traders, importers, and the industrial sector.
The report shows that Jordan currently holds approximately 610,000 tonnes of wheat, enough to cover 6.4 months of domestic consumption based on an average monthly demand of 95,000 tonnes.
In addition, 302,000 tonnes of wheat are under contract and currently en route to the Kingdom, providing a further 3.2 months of supply. This brings Jordan's total strategic wheat coverage to 9.6 months.
As for barley, the ministry said existing reserves stand at 609,000 tonnes, sufficient for seven months, while an additional 220,000 tonnes currently under contract will provide another 2.5 months of supply, raising total barley coverage to 9.5 months.
The ministry added that stocks of other essential food commodities remain at safe and stable levels, generally sufficient to meet demand for two to four months.
Officials attributed the strength of the Kingdom's strategic reserves to close cooperation with the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, the Jordan Chamber of Industry, traders, and importers.
The coordinated efforts aim to ensure stable supplies, diversify import sources, facilitate import and customs procedures, and monitor global and local prices to keep essential goods available at fair prices.
The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing regular market inspections and monitoring supply chains to respond swiftly to any developments and safeguard Jordan's long-term food security.
