Ministry of Public Works: Decrease in Reports During Recent Low-Pressure System Confirms Effectiveness of Technical and Engineering Solutions
AMMAN – Omar Maharmeh, the media spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (MPWH), stated on Sunday that the decline in the number of emergency reports during the recent low-pressure system reflects the effectiveness of the ministry's technical and engineering interventions. These measures were intensified over the past few weeks, supported by the implementation of the current winter emergency plan.اضافة اعلان

In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Maharmeh confirmed that proactive preparations, logistics, and training programs enhanced the readiness of the ministry’s field teams. The Ministry operated under a "medium-level" emergency plan, deploying teams and machinery across various governorates based on regional needs.

Ministry personnel have been on the ground since Wednesday morning, continuing their work throughout the Eid al-Fitr holiday to inspect roads, valleys, and water drainage systems.

Key Statistics and Operational Data:
Between Wednesday afternoon and 12:00 PM Sunday, the Ministry handled 29 emergency reports, in addition to routine maintenance for street lighting, traffic signals, and road accidents.

Wednesday – Friday: 25 reports.

Friday – Sunday: 4 reports only.

Regional Field Report:

Irbid: Addressed rockfalls and soil erosion on the Al-Shajara–Al-Mughayer road in Ramtha.

Jerash: Managed rising water levels in the Qairawan area caused by culvert capacity issues.

Balqa: Cleared a rockfall on the Dead Sea road near the Suwayma Municipality.

Capital (Amman): Addressed rising water levels under the Arinba Bridge on the Desert Highway.

Madaba: Handled soil and gravel erosion on the King’s Highway (Wadi Al-Wala), Ma’in road, and Dead Sea surface road. Teams also repaired a 20-meter partial closure on the Ma’in–Ajirman road caused by a collapsed gabion wall.

Karak: Managed several incidents of rising water and silt on the Ghor, Wadi Karak, and Al-Iraq roads. Technical notes were recorded regarding water installations in the Al-Iraq area.

Tafileh: Responded to silt accumulation on the Tafileh–Karak and King’s Highways. A 125-meter section of the Tafileh–Karak road collapsed, necessitating the creation of an emergency detour for traffic.

Ma’an: Addressed rising water levels on the Desert Highway, Ohayda, and Al-Fajij roads, along with silt accumulation in the Al-Husayniyah district.

The Ministry announced that teams will spend the next two days re-inspecting all culverts and critical sites in preparation for a new low-pressure system expected to affect the Kingdom starting Wednesday morning.
