A Royal Decree has been issued appointing Major General Staff Majdi Mohammad Hamad Al-Harasīs as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, effective September 2, 2026.

A Royal Decree had also been issued promoting Brigadier General Staff Majdi Mohammad Hamad Al-Harasīs to the rank of major general, effective September 2, 2026.

Two Royal Decrees were also issued promoting Lieutenant General Staff Yousef Ahmad Al-Huneiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to the rank of lieutenant general and referring him to retirement, effective September 2, 2026.
King Abdullah II, Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, sent the following message to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Staff Majdi Al-Harasīs:
“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Dear Brother Major General Staff Majdi Al-Harasīs,
Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you.
It gives me pleasure to extend to you, and to your fellow brothers and sisters, the Neshama and Neshmiyat of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, greetings filled with appreciation and pride in each and every one of them in their various positions.
Throughout your service in our armed forces, we have known you as a loyal soldier devoted to our beloved homeland and as an outstanding officer in the Arab Army, following the noble tradition of the Mustafa Army. Today, with our Royal Decree appointing you Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, we entrust you with the responsibility of serving dear Jordan and carrying out this duty with utmost care and dedication.
Dear Brother,
The armed forces enjoy the appreciation and respect of all Jordanians, as their officers, non-commissioned officers and personnel continue to set the finest examples of courage, chivalry and dedication, remaining vigilant to protect Jordanian territory and airspace and confront any threat targeting the nation’s capabilities or the security and safety of its citizens.
As you assume this leadership responsibility, you must keep the homeland foremost in your mind and ensure that every effort is made to serve Jordan and its people. You must recognize the importance of this long-established national institution, preserve its good reputation and standing, and continue strengthening its capabilities so that it remains the nation’s shield and its impregnable defense.
Accordingly, we direct you to follow up on efforts to restructure our armed forces, develop the capabilities of the Arab Army and modernize its equipment, enabling it to fulfill its responsibilities and confront emerging challenges, developments and threats with the highest levels of efficiency and readiness.
The Neshama and Neshmiyat of the armed forces must receive the utmost attention and care to empower them and build their capabilities, including officers, non-commissioned officers and personnel, while ensuring the highest levels of performance and professionalism. They will always remain the object of our trust, pride and esteem.
We ask Almighty God to help you shoulder this responsibility and grant you success in achieving the best for the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army. You will have our full support and backing.
