The government will conduct the electronic lottery to select conscripts for the 2026 National Service program at 5:00 p.m. today, Monday, in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces.
Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Al-Momani said on the platform X that the lottery will be broadcast live on local television channels. Youth born in 2007 and their families can follow the details and instructions that will be published through official channels.
He noted that the official platform dedicated to the National Service program, as well as the mechanism for verifying whether individuals are included in the service, will be announced immediately after the electronic lottery concludes.
Al-Momani stressed that National Service will be a formative stage that instills strength and confidence, offering young people a national experience they can be proud of.
The Cabinet had previously approved a three-month duration for National Service, starting from the date the conscript joins, in accordance with Article 5 of the National Service and Reserve Service Law. The decision also included proceeding with the legal procedures to summon those eligible—specifically individuals born in 2007—and dividing them into groups to be called in batches through an electronic lottery.
This step comes as part of preparations to launch the National Service program at the beginning of February, as announced by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II regarding the reactivation of the program.
The Official Gazette had earlier published, in a special issue, the amended National Service and Reserve Service Law after its approval by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, making it effective from the date of publication.
The amended law introduces major changes to National Service provisions, adding new clauses that outline updated conditions and criteria for deferment or exemption, as well as regulations related to residency abroad for those subject to service.
The rationale behind the amended law is to regulate legal requirements needed for the activation and implementation of the National Service program, define acceptable cases for deferment, and enable the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army to provide training programs in military centers and institutes. These programs may be counted toward university requirements for eligible students, according to instructions issued by the Cabinet, and may also be counted as part of National Service requirements. Additionally, the amended law abolishes provisions granting conscripts who complete their service any priority in hiring at ministries, government departments, and public or private institutions.
The amended law states that “the General Command shall include lectures and training programs it deems appropriate within the National Service program for conscripts in military centers and institutes, in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for the purpose of counting them toward the academic requirements of university, college, and community-college students.”
The law also affirms that conscripted students enrolled at public or private universities and institutes will retain their academic seats in the event they are called to serve.
Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan had confirmed that the implementation of the National Service program announced by the Crown Prince will begin at the start of February next year.
