French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated on Monday that France is ready to assist Gulf nations targeted by Iranian retaliatory strikes. He added, however, that the initial strikes launched by Israel and the United States against Iran should have been discussed beforehand at the United Nations.اضافة اعلان

Speaking to reporters following a crisis meeting at the Foreign Ministry in Paris, Barrot said: "Specifically regarding our partners in the region who have been deliberately targeted by the Iranian regime, we are prepared to contribute to their defense."

He further clarified: "This would be at their request, in a proportionate manner, and in accordance with the principle of collective defense enshrined in international law."

Referring to the initial Saturday attack on Iran by Israel and the U.S., Barrot noted that "unilateral strikes" could only gain necessary legitimacy through presentation to the UN Security Council. Nevertheless, he urged Iran to halt its attacks and accept "major concessions" to reach a political solution leading to peace in the region.

Barrot also reported that no French casualties have been recorded, despite a French naval base in Abu Dhabi being struck by a drone on Sunday, which caused limited damage.
