The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) has announced a 48-hour deadline for owners of stray and neglected camels to remove them from public roads and residential areas, warning that immediate action will be taken to remove the animals from the economic zone if owners fail to comply.

Director of Monitoring and Enforcement at ASEZA, Dr. Sabri Al-Rafou, said the urgent measure comes in response to the direct risks posed by unattended camels to public safety. He noted that the animals have been responsible for serious traffic accidents, damage to crops and private property, and negative environmental impacts resulting from the lack of proper supervision and care.
Dr. Al-Rafou explained that the authority was compelled to issue the public notice because it lacks the necessary information to identify and contact the owners of the camels, which are frequently seen along Airport Road, near major highways, and within residential neighborhoods.
He stressed that once the 48-hour deadline expires, the relevant authorities will begin implementing the necessary administrative and legal procedures to permanently remove the camels from the Aqaba Special Economic Zone.
ASEZA also urged all camel owners to assume responsibility and immediately secure their animals in designated areas to avoid legal accountability.
Dr. Al-Rafou emphasized that public safety is a shared responsibility and that cooperation from citizens and camel owners is essential to protecting lives and property and maintaining a safe and stable environment for all.
