Jordan’s Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Al-Saud, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Jordan, José Luis Pardo Cuerdo, along with senior officials, signed a financing agreement for the Digital Transformation Consultancy Services project for the water sector.
The project, valued at €765,000, is financed with the guarantee of Spain’s FIEM (Fund for the Internationalization of Enterprise).
According to a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the project aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of Jordan’s water system and evaluate operational systems in several governorates. It will also develop smart digital solutions based on integrated smart water technologies through consultancy services covering digital transformation, sustainability, energy management, governance, change management, cybersecurity, and the mitigation of cyber-related risks.
The project also seeks to enhance the readiness of operational technology (OT) systems and establish a clear roadmap for implementing digital transformation across Jordan’s water sector.
Abu Al-Saud said the initiative reflects the water sector’s commitment to improving government services and enhancing customer experience.
The project supports the government’s digital transformation agenda in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the national water sector strategy. It aims to deliver more efficient and user-friendly digital services, reduce time and effort for citizens, improve transparency, and facilitate access to services throughout the Kingdom.
The minister noted that the project will enable the sector to generate real-time operational data across the national water system, strengthening remote monitoring and control of water sources and distribution networks. It will also leverage the latest international expertise and technologies in water resources management while building the technical and institutional capacities needed to address Jordan’s water challenges and improve service quality.
He added that the initiative will improve network operating efficiency, optimize workforce and resource management, and provide more accurate monitoring of water systems.
The project is also expected to reduce water losses, improve customer services, enhance operational efficiency, strengthen data and reporting systems, shorten outage response times, improve energy management, promote sustainability, and reinforce cybersecurity while reducing digital risks.
Abu Al-Saud praised the support provided by the European Union and the Spanish government to Jordan’s water sector, particularly in advancing integrated water resources management and introducing modern technological solutions that improve water supply efficiency and resource management, thereby strengthening the Kingdom’s water security.
For his part, Spain’s ambassador to Jordan said the agreement reflects the depth of the partnership and cooperation between Jordan and Spain.
He stressed that digital transformation is a key pillar for improving water resource management and addressing water scarcity challenges.
The ambassador added that Spain is committed to sharing its expertise and experience in digitalization and water management to support Jordan’s efforts to modernize its water sector and achieve its sustainable development goals.
He also reaffirmed Spain’s continued support for projects that strengthen water security and improve public services for Jordanian citizens.
