Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday that he hopes gains made by Democrats in the US midterm elections will lead to increased support for Ukraine in its war with Russia.اضافة اعلان

He expressed hope that changes resulting from Democratic control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate next year would work in Kyiv's favor.

"I am also grateful to the Republicans, but Democrats speak more clearly about supporting Ukraine and providing assistance to it," Zelenskyy said.

"They talk about renewing relations between the United States and Europe. Therefore, there is hope that a balance of power will emerge and that we will receive more support," he added.

Zelenskyy said increased US assistance could also have an impact on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The Ukrainian president has made significant efforts to strengthen ties with US President Donald Trump, particularly following a tense meeting in the Oval Office in February 2025, during which Zelenskyy was accused of being "ungrateful" for American assistance.

In recent weeks, Trump has taken several steps seen as favoring Russia, including an agreement to import Russian diesel and easing sanctions.

Meanwhile, US-led trilateral talks involving Ukraine and Russia are scheduled to resume next week following a suspension lasting several months.

These developments come as Russia and Ukraine continue exchanging attacks, with the war having begun on February 24, 2022, and no comprehensive political settlement yet reached to end the conflict.
