A responsible military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said Friday evening that a unit of the Border Guards affiliated with the Northern Military Region foiled an attempt by an armed group to infiltrate and cross the border from Syrian territory.

The group was estimated to comprise 14 people, the source said.
The source explained that the armed group attempted to infiltrate under heavy covering fire while engaging in direct clashes with Jordanian forces. Border Guards immediately responded firmly and decisively in accordance with the applicable rules of engagement, inflicting multiple casualties on the armed group.
The remaining members of the group fled toward the Syrian interior, the source added.
The source affirmed that the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army will respond with full force and firmness to any attempt at infiltration or smuggling, and will take decisive action against anyone seeking to threaten the security of the homeland and citizens or violate the sanctity of Jordan’s borders.
