Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Momani expressed Jordan's deep respect for the Syrian state and its people, stressing that coordination between Jordan and Syria in combating terrorism, arms smuggling, and drug trafficking is institutionalized, ongoing, and has been in place for years.

He explained that this cooperation stems from a firm commitment to safeguarding the security of both countries and reflects their joint efforts to promote stability and security.

The government spokesperson emphasized that the airstrikes carried out yesterday by the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army targeted ISIS positions after Jordan's patience had run out over the activities of terrorist organizations and their threats to national security.

Momani explained that the operations were conducted based on intelligence gathered on the ground to neutralize confirmed threats and planned terrorist attacks against Jordan.

He noted that preliminary results indicate significant ISIS losses, with more than 20 militants killed and a large weapons depot belonging to the terrorist organization destroyed.

The spokesperson expressed regret over civilian casualties, stressing that Jordan had refrained from targeting locations where intelligence indicated the presence of civilians. He confirmed that the relevant Jordanian authorities are following up on the matter with their Syrian counterparts.

Momani reiterated that Jordan consistently takes all necessary precautions to avoid harming civilians, emphasizing that the Kingdom places the same importance on the lives of innocent civilians beyond its borders as it does on the lives of Jordanians.
He stressed that this approach reflects Jordan's belief that human life and dignity are universal values, regardless of nationality or location.

Momani announced that Jordan would work with its Syrian counterparts to establish a joint committee to follow up on the consequences of the operation against ISIS and strengthen coordination in combating the terrorist organization, ensuring the security of both countries and their peoples while protecting civilians.

The government spokesperson emphasized that the security of Jordan and Syria is interconnected, and that combating terrorism remains a shared priority, particularly following the terrorist attack that targeted Jordan just days ago in the village of Hammoud in Karak Governorate.

He reaffirmed that both countries would continue working to strengthen their longstanding brotherly relations.

Concluding his remarks, Momani stressed that Jordan's commitment to Syria cannot be questioned.

"Jordan has hosted Syrians, stood by them, and continuously provided support," he said, emphasizing the Kingdom's determination to support Syria's security, strengthen its unity and internal stability, and enhance its standing at all levels.

He added that Jordan continues to coordinate with international partners to safeguard Syrian territory, preserve the country's unity and stability, and counter threats and expansionist ambitions, particularly in southern Syria.
