Cryptocurrency exchanges are taking swift measures to strengthen their defenses and are calling for broader information sharing across the industry after a record $6.3 billion breach at Binance exposed vulnerabilities as the sector becomes increasingly integrated into the mainstream financial system.اضافة اعلان

Coinbase said it had made adjustments to systems that store cryptocurrency keys offline, describing the move as a precaution taken “out of an abundance of caution.” Kraken said it was monitoring incidents across the industry to identify lessons that could be applied to strengthen its own defenses.

However, the industry needs to move quickly, analysts and executives said, as regulators under U.S. President Donald Trump seek to integrate digital assets more deeply into the financial system. This is increasing the scale of risks facing an industry that already has a long history of major cyberattacks.

“To achieve the full potential of crypto, the security situation must be addressed immediately,” said Chris Perkins, head of crypto at Franklin Templeton.

Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, halted withdrawals following Thursday’s attack, which analysts blamed on North Korea. The company said it would use corporate funds to cover the losses.

Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said on X that the “sophisticated attack” may have originated from a compromised laptop belonging to a software engineer, giving hackers access to systems used to process withdrawals.

The company later discovered additional breaches, while software designed to erase traces of the attack hindered the investigation.
