Ammon News — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan stressed the need to redouble efforts and foster seamless coordination and integration among all relevant entities to guarantee the completion of economic, developmental, and tourism projects in Aqaba, while continuing to empower the private sector and investors by cultivating an enabling environment.
Chairing a meeting on Sunday at the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), the Prime Minister noted that the pace of work and achievement in Aqaba is moving with great momentum, driven by the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the rigorous follow-up of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. He underscored the necessity of building upon these efforts to seize opportunities and meet the goals of the Economic Modernization Vision.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Aqaba serves as the cornerstone for major strategic projects spanning the water, energy, transport, and railway sectors, whose impact will extend nationwide. He revealed that the coming months will mark the start of implementation for both the National Water Carrier Project and the National Railway Project, following extensive government efforts to put them on track as vital national, economic, and developmental priorities.
He stressed the importance of expediting development and expansion projects across Aqaba’s ports, alongside freight and storage logistics services, to enhance their regional competitiveness. Similarly, he emphasized the critical role of public beach development initiatives and the need to curate events and programs that promote both domestic and international tourism.
During the meeting—attended by the Ministers of Transport, Energy, and State for Economic Affairs, alongside the Chairman and officials of the Aqaba Development Corporation—the Prime Minister reviewed progress across various economic, investment, and developmental projects executed by the corporation.
The meeting followed the Prime Minister’s inauguration of the Quweira gas station project and the Southern Industrial Complex station, as well as laying the foundation stone for the Onshore Regasification Facility and touring the Aqaba Marine Reserve.
In the meeting, the Prime Minister pointed out the strategic value of the newly inaugurated gas projects in supporting national industries, boosting their competitiveness, and lowering energy costs by 35% to 60% as part of a broader government plan to supply industrial cities and clusters across the Kingdom with natural gas.
He commended the ongoing efforts to develop Aqaba and solidify its economic, developmental, tourist, and logistical standing both locally and regionally, asserting that significant work lies ahead, backed by a clear vision, qualitative projects, resolute determination, and an ability to deliver results.
The Prime Minister listened to a briefing delivered by ADC Chief Executive Officer Hussein Safadi and the corporation’s team detailing current and future plans across logistics, ports, real estate, and transport sectors. The briefing highlighted ADC’s role as the investment and development arm of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, operating in alignment with the Economic Modernization Vision.
Safadi noted that ADC has recently completed several strategic and vital projects and signed numerous agreements and private sector partnerships—both locally and internationally—within the Aqaba Special Economic Zone and the Quweira Industrial Zone. These efforts aim to modernize the area, attract foreign direct investment, and reinforce Aqaba's economic, tourism, and investment profile.
He also outlined the corporation’s management and oversight of the port ecosystem, working alongside government entities and the Ministry of Transport to ensure operational efficiency, secure supply chains, facilitate cargo and logistics movements, and streamline transit trade.
