Government Communications Minister and government spokesperson Mohammad Al-Momani said Thursday that the 2026 General Population and Housing Census had officially begun in Jordan and would continue for one month, including the field enumeration phase. Around 12,000 field researchers are taking part in the census, 60% of whom are women.

Al-Momani said the census covers approximately 12 million people, 2.5 million households and more than one million buildings.

He described the 2026 General Population and Housing Census as an important statistical exercise carried out internationally to strengthen future planning tools. He said Jordan has consistently sought to adopt practices that improve the quality of government plans and their outcomes.

Al-Momani stressed that data confidentiality and the privacy of citizens and residents would be protected, noting that all necessary measures had been put in place to verify the identities of field researchers and address inquiries from citizens and residents.

He added that the census would contribute to a positive and modern image of Jordan and directly assist relevant authorities in identifying citizens' needs and planning effectively across various sectors.

According to the plan prepared by the Department of Statistics, individuals who had previously expressed an interest in completing their information online and provided the department with their phone numbers for this purpose will receive a dedicated electronic self-enumeration link through the "Sanad" application. This will allow them to complete information about their households and housing units electronically.

After the self-enumeration phase ends on October 3, field enumeration will officially begin on October 4. It will be carried out by around 12,000 field researchers drawn from the Department of Statistics, teachers from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, and employees of institutions participating in the census.

The census covers all people and housing units in the Kingdom, including citizens and residents, with the aim of providing up-to-date, comprehensive and accurate data on the population and housing.

The data will serve as a basis for planning, policymaking and decision-making across various sectors.

The Department of Statistics is using a modern digital system to collect and process data during the census. It has called on citizens and residents to cooperate with field researchers and provide the requested information accurately.

The department confirmed that all information provided would be treated with strict confidentiality. It also urged households to verify the identity of field researchers through their official statistical identification cards, which carry an electronic verification code.

The census aims to provide an updated picture of the population and housing situation in the Kingdom, helping authorities identify actual needs and plan services and projects in sectors including education, healthcare, housing, transport, infrastructure and public services.
