Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said Jordan wants security and stability in the region and good relations with everyone.

In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Safadi said achieving good Arab-Iranian relations requires Iran to halt actions that have undermined Arab security, including interference in the affairs of Arab states, as well as ending what Jordan considers unjustified attacks against Jordan and other Arab countries.
He said efforts are underway to reach a solution, with the participation of Qatar, Türkiye, Pakistan and Egypt, adding that Jordan supports these efforts.
Safadi said it is in everyone’s interest to reach a solution to the crisis, beginning with a ceasefire now and moving toward a comprehensive settlement that addresses all the causes of tension in the past and leads to lasting security and stability.
He explained that diplomacy provides an opportunity to meet, discuss challenges and problems, express positions and reaffirm demands. He said he had spoken with Iran’s foreign minister about the need to reach a political solution to the crisis.
Safadi said any solution must address all the causes of tension over the past years and ensure respect for the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their affairs and an end to actions that threaten their security.
The solution must also guarantee freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and end attacks against Jordan and fellow Arab countries in the Gulf.
On Thursday, Safadi met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.
The two officials discussed efforts to end the dangerous escalation in the region and reach a sustainable ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, leading to a comprehensive solution to the crisis.
Safadi stressed the importance of concerted efforts to restore calm and achieve lasting security and stability based on principles that guarantee the security and stability of all countries in the region, respect international law and good-neighborly relations, and non-interference in the internal affairs of states.
He also stressed the need to respect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, while renewing Jordan’s condemnation of Iranian attacks against Jordan and the Gulf Cooperation Council states and calling for an end to them.
Safadi stressed that Jordan will continue taking all necessary and available measures to confront these attacks and protect its territory, sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
He reaffirmed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy as the means of addressing all causes of tension and escalation over the past years and consolidating security and stability in the region.
