Major Kifah Al-Hazaimeh, an officer with the Traffic Operations Room, said Thursday that road closures and traffic diversions would begin in several parts of Amman at dawn on Friday in conjunction with the Amman Marathon 2026.
The first closures will begin at 4 a.m., followed by additional closures around 7 a.m., covering major roads and routes across the capital in line with the different stages and routes of the marathon.
Al-Hazaimeh said the traffic management plan includes deploying officers and vehicles at locations affected by closures and diversions, while monitoring traffic both in the field and through cameras. He urged drivers to follow traffic officers’ instructions and approved diversion routes.
The marathon will include three race categories covering 42 km, 21 km and 10 km, with roads closed in stages according to the starting times and routes of each race.
The Jordan Running Federation also announced the traffic closure plan for the Promin Amman Marathon 2026, in coordination with relevant authorities, to ensure participants’ safety and manage traffic as runners pass through the designated race routes.
42 km and 21 km Routes
The road extending from the New Raghadan Complex, through both directions of Army Street, Hashemite Square, Quraysh Street and Ali Bin Abi Talib Street to Al-Muhajireen traffic lights, as well as Omar Al-Matar Street, King Talal Street and Al-Hashimi Street, will be closed from midnight until noon.
These closures cover the shared route of the full 42.195 km marathon, in both individual and relay categories, and the 21 km half-marathon. Both races will start at 6 a.m.
10 km Route
Queen Alia Street will be fully closed between Sports City Circle and Interior Circle, along with Queen Noor Street between Interior Circle and Fourth Circle.
The closures will also include Uqba Bin Nafeh Street and Princess Basma Street all the way to the Hashemite Square area.
These closures will be in effect from 6 a.m. until noon, coinciding with the 10 km race, which starts at 9 a.m.
The Jordan Running Federation urged residents and road users to take the closures into account when planning their journeys on marathon morning, choose suitable alternative routes, and follow instructions from traffic officers and relevant authorities at locations affected by diversions.
The plan is part of the field arrangements for the Promin Amman Marathon 2026, which will be held under the slogan “Run in the Heart of Amman”, with runners participating across the various race categories.
