Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan inaugurated a natural gas station in Al-Quweira Industrial City in Aqaba as part of the government's strategy to reduce energy costs in industrial cities and clusters across Jordan by 35% to 60%.

The Al-Quweira natural gas station was built at a cost of approximately JD 8 million and has an initial operating capacity of 30,000 cubic meters per day, expandable to 90,000 cubic meters per day.
The station is part of a series of government measures aimed at supporting Jordan's industrial sector, which has been experiencing steady export growth, while also enhancing the Kingdom's competitiveness in attracting new investments.
Al-Quweira Industrial City has been developed across 1,800 dunums, with construction beginning in 2023 under a joint development agreement between the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), and PBI.
The first phase, covering more than 300 dunums, included the completion of infrastructure works and the construction of a gas pressure measurement and reduction station connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline and Jordan's natural gas network.
The station has a capacity exceeding 90,000 cubic meters per hour and was completed at a cost of JD 25 million.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated a natural gas station in the Southern Industrial Zone in Aqaba, aimed at supporting national industries and reducing energy costs for manufacturers operating in industrial cities and zones.
The station, which supplies industries in the Southern Industrial Zone with natural gas, was completed in approximately 10 months at a cost of JD 3.5 million.
Prime Minister Hassan laid the foundation stone for the project in September of last year, although it had originally been expected to take 18 months to complete.
The project to supply industrial cities with natural gas is considered a strategic initiative designed to support Jordanian industry, strengthen the competitiveness of the national economy, attract investment, increase exports, and promote environmental sustainability, in line with the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision.
The natural gas stations in Al-Quweira and the Aqaba Industrial Complex will provide factories in Aqaba with cleaner and more sustainable energy, enabling manufacturers to expand operations, lower production costs, improve competitiveness, and attract new investments.
During the visit, Hassan also laid the foundation stone for a shore-based regasification unit with an estimated investment of nearly JD 90 million.
The facility is scheduled to begin operations by the middle of next year and will have a capacity of 700 million cubic feet per day as part of the development of the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah LNG Port.
The shore-based regasification project is regarded as a strategic component of Jordan's energy security.
It will replace the existing floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), diversify energy supply options, increase storage capacity, and strengthen the country's energy infrastructure.
The project will enable Jordan to source liquefied natural gas (LNG) from multiple suppliers around the world, enhancing security of supply.
At the same time, the government will maintain the option of importing LNG for electricity generation and industrial use as a strategic measure to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies while reducing the operating costs of the LNG terminal for the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO).
