Medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced on Saturday that the death toll from the ongoing Israeli offensive since October 7, 2023, has risen to 72,051 fatalities and 171,706 injuries, amid harsh humanitarian conditions and severe difficulties facing ambulance and rescue teams in reaching those missing beneath the rubble.

The sources stated that hospitals in the Strip received two bodies recovered over the past 24 hours, in addition to 15 injured individuals. They confirmed that large numbers of victims remain in the streets and under the debris of destroyed buildings, as Israeli forces and limited resources continue to prevent rescue and civil defense teams from accessing them. This raises concerns that the final death toll may increase further.
In a related development, medical reports revealed alarming statistics since the ceasefire that took effect on October 11. During this period, the number of fatalities has reached 591, while total injuries have risen to 1,598 cases. Field teams have also managed to recover 726 bodies of victims who were killed in earlier stages of the offensive, a challenging task carried out amid near-total destruction of infrastructure.
These figures reflect the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, amid repeated international calls to open humanitarian corridors and facilitate the work of medical teams. Health officials in the Strip stress that leaving bodies in the streets for extended periods constitutes a blatant violation of international conventions and further complicates the health and environmental conditions for displaced civilians across the territory.
