Cairo News Channel reported on Monday morning the arrival of the first group of Palestinians returning from Egypt to the Gaza Strip.
The channel noted that hospitals in North Sinai would be the first destination for Palestinian wounded and patients leaving the Gaza Strip for Egypt.
Earlier, the Israeli Government Activities Coordination Unit said that the Rafah crossing was expected to open in both directions for the movement of individuals on Monday, a statement also confirmed by Ali Shaath, head of the Palestinian Technocrats Committee.
The coordination unit clarified that “the actual passage of residents in both directions will begin once preparations are completed.” It did not mention the passage of aid.
Israel partially reopened the Rafah crossing on Sunday, limiting crossings to individuals under strict monitoring, while humanitarian organizations are calling for it to be opened without restrictions to allow the delivery of aid to the devastated and besieged enclave.
