The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday that armed groups operating outside the law attacked Syrian army and internal security forces inside the city of Sweida, despite a ceasefire agreement reached with the city's dignitaries and community leaders, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The ministry had previously affirmed the army’s right to respond to sources of fire.
It noted that army units continue to engage the sources of gunfire within Sweida, while adhering to rules of engagement aimed at protecting civilians, preventing harm to them, and ensuring the safe return of displaced residents to their homes.
The Ministry of Defense also urged residents of the city to remain in their homes and to report any remaining members of the outlaw groups.
