The Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Saud, inaugurated the operation of a photovoltaic solar energy project at the Zara–Ma’in Water Station, in the presence of European Union Ambassador Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, Secretary-General of the Water Authority Sufian Al-Batayneh, CEO of Miyahuna (Jordan Water Company) Mohammad Al-Awran, and representatives of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).اضافة اعلان

The project has a capacity of 1 megawatt and an annual production of 2.6 gigawatt-hours, at a cost of JD 1.2 million, funded through grants from the European Union and the EBRD. It is expected to save nearly JD 250,000 annually in operating costs for the Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna). The project is part of a series of renewable energy initiatives supported by the European Union and the EBRD, including the Disi project, which has a capacity of 24 megawatts and an annual production of 80 gigawatt-hours. The Disi project aims to supply water sources and reduce operating costs by approximately JD 8 million annually.

Minister Abu Saud expressed his appreciation to the European Union and the EBRD for their continued support in achieving the strategic objectives of the water sector, including reducing operating costs, improving services provided to citizens, and ensuring the sustainability of water services.

He also highlighted the importance of enhancing the local environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and providing clean energy sources, in addition to creating job opportunities that contribute to achieving sustainable development.
