The agreement was signed by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, with Trump signing as well. The signing coincided with Trump’s participation in the ASEAN Leaders Summit, before continuing to Japan and South Korea.

Trump stated that the peace agreement, aimed at ending the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, likely saved millions of lives.

In a post on Truth Social from aboard Air Force One, Trump noted that the Thai Prime Minister, who requested to postpone the signing due to the passing of the Queen Mother, would be ready “when we land.”

He added:

“Unfortunately, the Queen Mother of Thailand has passed away. My condolences to the great people of Thailand. To allow everyone the opportunity to attend this historic event, we will sign the peace agreement upon our arrival.”

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had postponed his departure to attend the ASEAN summit in Malaysia following the Queen Mother’s death but expressed his desire to participate in the signing. He told reporters:

“My trip to Malaysia today was canceled. However, regarding the peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia with the presence of the Malaysian Prime Minister and the U.S. President, I requested to postpone it until tomorrow morning.”

The Thai Royal Palace announced the passing of Queen Sirikit, mother of the current King Vajiralongkorn and wife of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (reigned 1946–2016), at the age of 93 on Friday.

A border conflict erupted between Thailand and Cambodia in July, escalating into the most intense military clashes between the two countries in decades, resulting in over 40 deaths and forcing nearly 300,000 people to flee.

After five days of fighting, both sides agreed to a ceasefire, mediated with Trump’s involvement, though accusations of violations have continued since then.
