Khalil al-Haniyeh, head of Hamas in Gaza, stated that the Israeli occupation has failed to achieve its objectives despite two years since the war, noting that statements from U.S. President Donald Trump and other American officials confirm that the war has ended.

Al-Haniyeh said that Hamas handed over 20 Israeli prisoners within 72 hours of the ceasefire, along with 17 out of 28 bodies of prisoners, adding that search teams will enter new areas on Sunday to recover the remaining bodies.
He clarified that Hamas has no reservations about any national figure residing in Gaza assuming administrative control of the sector, announcing that the movement will hand over all administrative authority, including security, to the nationally agreed-upon management committee.
Al-Haniyeh added that Hamas and Fatah have agreed to accept the presence of UN forces to separate and monitor the ceasefire. He indicated that the UN’s role will also include the reconstruction of Gaza, with Palestinian factions united in moving toward elections as a step toward national reconciliation.
He also told U.S. envoys Whitaker and Kushner that Hamas are “advocates of stability,” emphasizing that President Trump has the ability to restrain the occupation. He described Israel’s failure to achieve its goals and its targeting of Doha as an “unprecedented setback” for the occupation.
Regarding the resistance’s arms, al-Haniyeh said, “The weapons are linked to the presence of the occupation and aggression; if the occupation ends, these weapons will be transferred to the state,” noting that the issue remains under discussion with factions and mediators.
He stressed that the issue of prisoners is “a fully national matter,” and efforts continue to alleviate their suffering despite Israeli obstruction over certain individuals. He also highlighted Gaza’s need for 6,000 aid trucks daily, rather than the 600 currently entering, as Israel continues to restrict the flow of materials, “as if the war has not ended.”
