Jordan will have no military role in post-war Gaza – Momani
Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Momani has said that Jordan will have no “military roles” in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

Speaking to the Jordan TV’s “60 Minutes” on Friday, Momani said that the Kingdom will continue its humanitarian efforts to alleviate the large-scale suffering of the Palestinian people in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

“Jordan supports all efforts seeking to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people and help them realize their legitimate right of an independent state of their own,” Momani said.

“We will not have any military roles in Gaza and the West Bank.”

The Gaza Peace Agreement, brokered by the US, calls for sending an international force to Gaza to oversee the security situation and police the ceasefire.

Describing the Israeli move to annex the West Bank as “hostile policy,” Momani expressed thanks to the US and international community in rejecting such Israeli schemes.

US President Donald Trump has dismissed an effort by Israeli lawmakers to move ahead with annexation of the occupied West Bank, saying Israel is "not going to do anything with the West Bank."

Israel’s Knesset (parliament) has voted to give preliminary approval to a bill to impose Israeli sovereignty on the occupied West Bank.

Jordan, along with 14 Arab and Islamic countries, on Thursday condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two bills to impose so-called “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied West Bank and illegal Israeli settlements.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement,” The move represents a blatant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, character, and legal status of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.”
