According to Iran’s Haft-e Sobh agency, secret contacts have begun between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Witkof regarding the resumption of nuclear negotiations.
The report highlighted that a secret meeting may take place in Oman or Qatar in the near future.
A source familiar with the matter at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Al-Ghad that Araghchi has conducted recent communications with Witkof concerning the restart of nuclear talks.
Last week, during his visit to the Middle East, U.S. President Donald Trump called from the podium of the Israeli Knesset for a “peace deal” with Iran, stating:
“It would be wonderful if we made a peace deal with them. Wouldn’t that be great? I think they want it.”
Yesterday, Egypt announced intensive efforts to reduce tensions and create conditions for resuming negotiations between Iran and the United States to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati held contacts with Araghchi, as well as with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and Witkof, to follow developments on the Iranian nuclear file.
The ministry clarified that these communications are part of efforts to support security and stability, reduce tensions, and build on the momentum generated by the Cairo Agreement between Iran and the IAEA on September 9.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the contacts focused on the need to continue de-escalation efforts, build trust, and create conditions for resuming U.S.-Iran negotiations to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement that respects the interests of all parties and contributes to regional security and stability.
