Kuwait has approved a defense cooperation agreement with Pakistan, following the issuance of a decree-law approving the accord signed between the two countries in Kuwait on June 11, 2023, according to what was published in the Kuwaiti Official Gazette on Sunday.

The agreement aims to establish the foundations of cooperation in defense and armed forces training, in compliance with the laws and regulations in force in both countries and their international obligations.
Areas of cooperation include military training and education, inter-armed forces cooperation, logistics, the exchange of personnel, technical experts, and specialists across various military fields, as well as collaboration in scientific, technological, and military intelligence domains, alongside any other fields agreed upon by both parties.
The agreement provides for the preparation of annual plans to execute joint activities through executive protocols and programs, in addition to bolstering cooperation through exchange visits at various levels.
It also stipulates the formation of a joint military committee to coordinate and implement cooperation across various military sectors, co-chaired by officials appointed by the defense ministers of both nations, with the committee holding an annual meeting.
Furthermore, the accord obligates both parties to take the necessary measures to protect exchanged classified information and documents, prohibiting their transfer to any third party without prior written consent from the originating party, with confidentiality obligations remaining in effect even after the termination of the agreement.
The agreement also confirms that its provisions do not affect either country's obligations arising from other international treaties and agreements. It stipulates that any dispute regarding its interpretation or application shall be settled amicably between the two parties, without referral to any third party or to domestic or international courts.
