Iran stated on Monday that the United States has no bearing on its ongoing discussions with the Sultanate of Oman concerning the management of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

During a press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said: "The United States is completely uninvolved in these discussions. It is a bilateral matter between Iran and Oman, and talks are currently ongoing," emphasizing that this vital waterway for energy supplies and maritime shipping "remains closed" by Iran.
Baghaei clarified that deputy foreign ministers from both countries held talks on Friday and Saturday regarding "shared principles and operational mechanisms" to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the strait.
Iran has effectively closed the strait since the launch of the U.S.-Israeli military campaign against it on February 28, causing severe disruptions in global energy markets and maritime shipping.
He noted that Tehran has not requested the resumption of talks with the United States to end the war, confirming that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains unchanged.
Tehran maintains that maritime traffic in the strait will not return to its pre-war state, insisting that navigation must remain under its supervision in consultation with Oman, which borders the opposite side of the strait. Both parties have raised the possibility of levying a "service fee" on vessels wishing to transit the waterway.
The confrontation between the United States and Iran entered a phase of cautious calm on Sunday, following Tehran's announcement of a pause in attacks after U.S. strikes ceased for a second consecutive day. Meanwhile, Washington reaffirmed its continued military readiness while leaving a limited window for diplomatic channels.
Iran experienced its third consecutive night without U.S. strikes following the mutual pause in attacks and a statement by Washington's UN representative confirming that President Donald Trump decided to give negotiations "some space"—a development that led to a drop in oil prices on Monday.
