Yesterday evening, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, Paulo Rangel, in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon.اضافة اعلان

Safadi and Rangel affirmed the depth of the historical relations binding the Kingdom and Portugal. They discussed ways to develop cooperation across various fields, including economy, investment, renewable energy, water, agriculture, education, tourism, and defense industries, both bilaterally and within the framework of cooperation with the European Union.

The two ministers agreed to hold the next round of political consultations between the two countries as soon as possible, contributing to the establishment of practical cooperation programs and opening new horizons for partnership.

Safadi and Rangel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the ministries of foreign affairs of both countries regarding diplomatic training and the exchange of information and documents. This aims to enhance institutional cooperation between the two ministries, support the exchange of expertise, build diplomatic capacities, and develop coordination and consultation mechanisms between the two nations.

The two ministers discussed regional developments and efforts aimed at ending the escalation and restoring permanent security and stability based on foundations that ensure addressing all causes of tension.

They also discussed the dangerous situation in the occupied Palestinian territory. Safadi emphasized the necessity of stabilizing Gaza, delivering sufficient and sustainable aid without obstacles, and halting illegal Israeli measures in the occupied West Bank, including settlement expansion, settler violence, land confiscation, and attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Reviewing the situation in Lebanon, Safadi stressed the need to consolidate the ceasefire, support the Lebanese government in its efforts to enforce its sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, and restrict weapons exclusively to the state.

During joint press statements, Safadi and Rangel emphasized the importance of continuing to build on the momentum witnessed in bilateral relations and expanding cooperation.

The two ministers confirmed they held fruitful and extensive talks on cooperation opportunities in vital sectors. They noted that both countries are working on launching a direct flight route between Amman and Lisbon, which will provide a significant boost to enhancing economic cooperation, trade exchange, and tourism between the two nations.

Safadi and Rangel also affirmed the alignment of visions between the two friendly countries regarding the importance of strengthening multilateral action, respecting international law and the UN Charter, and supporting all diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving crises and achieving security and stability.

Safadi commended Portugal's firm stances in support of achieving peace and stability in the region, foremost of which is its support for the two-state solution and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on their national soil, to live in security and peace alongside Israel. He emphasized the importance of Portugal's decision to recognize the Palestinian State, considering it a step that reflects a commitment to international law and the achievement of a just and comprehensive peace.

For his part, Rangel affirmed Portugal's appreciation for Jordan's significant role in promoting security and stability in the region and advancing efforts aimed at achieving peace based on the two-state solution, expressing his country's aspiration to work with Jordan to achieve this.

Safadi continues his meetings today in Lisbon with a number of Portuguese officials.
