Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation and increase bilateral trade to $12 billion during a meeting in New Delhi on Sunday.

The talks also covered a number of regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
Egyptian presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said Modi welcomed El-Sisi and praised Cairo’s active participation in the summit. El-Sisi, in turn, commended India’s successful presidency of the bloc this year and its efforts to strengthen cooperation and coordination among member states in a way that serves the interests of the Global South and supports multilateral international action.
The talks addressed ways to further develop Egyptian-Indian relations and build on the growing momentum since the two countries elevated their ties to a strategic partnership in 2023.
El-Sisi stressed the importance of continuing to take concrete steps to strengthen the partnership, including raising bilateral trade to $12 billion and increasing Indian investments in Egypt, particularly in manufacturing, technology, clean energy and automotive industries.
The Egyptian president highlighted Egypt’s competitive advantages, including its strategic location, qualified workforce, extensive network of free trade agreements, as well as incentives offered by the Suez Canal Economic Zone and other industrial areas.
Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to further developing bilateral relations across various fields, praising Egypt’s pivotal role in the region and its substantial economic and human resources.
He urged the Indian government to encourage companies to increase their investments in Egypt and explore available opportunities. He also stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the business communities in both countries and deepening ties between them to support joint projects and the transfer of expertise and technology.
The two sides also discussed opportunities for cooperation in new and renewable energy, green hydrogen, pharmaceuticals and information technology, opening new prospects for the private sectors in both countries.
The meeting also featured an exchange of views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.
El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s position that crises must be resolved through peaceful means and negotiations, with diplomatic solutions given priority, while respecting international law, state sovereignty and the unity and territorial integrity of states, and ending escalation and the use of force.
